Cuckoo Bees

The Cuckoo Bee

The Domino Cuckoo Bee (Thyreus lugubris) is wanted for stalking the innocent pupae of the Teddy Bear Bee. While the Neon Cuckoo Bee (Thyreus nitidulus) is sought for its trickery of Blue-Banded Bees. Don’t be fooled by their gorgeous looks, Cuckoo bees lay their eggs in the nests of others bees. The Cuckoo Bee hatches first and eats all or most of the food stores of the legitimate baby bee…leaving it to either starve or emerge stunted due to malnutrition.
