Carpenter Bees

Carpenter Bees

Xylocopa

There are yellow, black and green carpenter bees and they are so named because they cut burrows into dry wood to make their homes. The stunning, shimmery, metallic colour of some of these bees make them look like flying jewels, while others look like black knights wearing a golden shield. They are buzz pollinators who share their nest burrows, and you can help them find a home by planting some bee friendly trees in your garden or finding them some dead banksia, or other pithy branches to nest in.
